Lacrosse Opens 2019 Campaign With Win Over Seacoast
The Gulf Breeze High boys lacrosse varsity squad opened its 2019 campaign at home Wednesday night at Dolphin Stadium, hosting Seacoast Academy from the Destin-area. The team comes into 2019 with much expectation and attention following an undefeated regular season and district title in 2018. The Dolphins picked up in-- what appeared to be mid-season form-- in their first game, dominating the pace of play and scoring 18 goals. The offensive barrage came early, and often, for the Dolphins, who scored 5 goals in the opening quarter, 7 goals in the second quarter and the final 6 goals in the third quarter before taking the foot off of the proverbial gas pedal in the game's final quarter. Coach Earle McAuley was please with his team's opening showing, and is seeing dividends of a strenuous off-season. “The lacrosse team opened the 2019 campaign with an 18-4 win in deep for against a much improved Seacoast Collegiate. Leading the charge for the Dolphins were Senior Attackman Carter Couget with 5 goals, 2 assists and 4 ground balls. Leading the defense was senior goalie Garrison Reno Story who recorded 6 saves and had a 95 clear percentage. Garrison also recorded an assist to fellow senior Tucker Smith on a breakaway clear.” Gulf Breeze will face maybe its toughest test of the regular season this weekend when the Dolphins travel to the St. Augustine area to visit the Ponte Vedra Sharks, who are ranked in the top 30 teams nationally.
