Dolphins Top Fort Walton Beach to Open District Play

The varsity softball team opened its 2019 district schedule by hosting the Fort Walton Beach Vikings. Fans didn't get all of the softball that they paid for, as the game was shortened in a 13-3 route of the Vikings. Sarah Aker pitched 4.0 innings for the Dolphins to get the decision in the win. Firstbaseman Emily Crowder had 4 RBI at the plate for Gulf Breeze and shortstop Bri Ballay added 3 hits as the Dolphins pushed across runs in each of their five offensive innings. Coach Chelsea McGehee praised the overall effort of her team after the game. "Our first district win against FWB was a great one. All the tiny pieces we have been working on fell together and our bats woke up. Not one person in the lineup was an easy out. Our pitchers generated some hard fought innings to beat [Fort Walton Beach]." GBHS is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in district play. They will next play again when they host the Choctaw Indians on Thursday 02/28/19.
