Escambia Surges Past Dolphins in Extra Innings

Gulf Breeze dropped a defensive battle to the Escambia Gators Tuesday night at home 3-2. It would take an extra inning, but eventually the Gators would plate the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and the Dolphins could not answer in the bottom half. Gulf Breeze was not without its scoring opportunities, however. In the bottom of the eighth, Bryson Smith was stranded on third base in what would have been the winning run. Brandon Schrepf nearly won it in the bottom of the seventh on a ball hit to the left field fence that narrowly missed carrying out of the park for what would have been a walk-off homerun. Gulf Breeze will have to bounce back and refocus its attention on crucial district games against Fort Walton Beach Thursday and Friday.
