Dolphins Get Big District Win Over Choctaw 5-1

The Gulf Breeze baseball team opened district play Thursday night at home by hosting the Choctaw Indians from Fort Walton Beach. The Dolphins are trying to defend their first district championship in almost three decades in 2017-18 and are likely the favorite to repeat in Kevin Ricks' second season. Thursday's 5-1 victory over the Indians in the first game of the series was an optimistic start. Gulf Breeze brought their overall record to 2-4, but sit atop the district standings after the first game (1-0). Solid pitching and defense highlighted the game, with Gulf Breeze carrying a 5-0 lead into the top of the 7th (and final) inning before finally surrendering Choctaw's only run of the night. Game two of the series will be tonight at Choctaw.
