Dolphins Dominant on Senior Night, Secure Play-off Spot

In a night filled with various emotions, Gulf Breeze ended its regular season in emphatic fashion. The Dolphins beat the Gadsden County Jaguars 49-6 in a route that resulted in a running clock in the second half. Seniors were recognized as part of the Senior Night festivities, capping off their final game at Dolphin Stadium. As an at-large #7 seed in Region 1-6A, Gulf Breeze will likely have to travel in each round of the state play-offs. The night saw explosive performances by unsung seniors, such as wide receiver Kel Jackson, who had three catches for over 100 yards and his first career touchdown. Defensively, senior cornerback, and Troy commit, Christian Murphy snatched his fourth interception of the season and took most of the carries at running back. He carried the ball 11 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns. The game also had emotional lows, however, as senior running back- the state's leading rusher and Davidson commit- Tyler Dittmer left the game in the first offensive drive due to an apparent ankle injury sustained on his first carry. The rushing load would be shouldered by Murphy and junior Steven Guess, who also rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns on 7 carries.

Next week the Dolphins will head to Pine Forest in a rematch of their regular season 27-15 loss back on September 14th. The match-up pits #2 seeded Pine Forest against the seventh-seeded Dolphins in the Region 1 quarterfinals. The winner will face the winner of the #3 versus #6 seed match-up between Crestview and Niceville.
